As far as the 1/8 vs 1/4 mile racing, both are valid and each can favor different types of car configurations. Also cars are typically set up differently for 1/8th mile vs 1/4 mile racing. (trans gears, rear end gearing, etc.) Car weight can also make a difference as a very lightweight car will get off the line quicker than a heavier car that takes a bit to get moving.

Local Time: 6:38 PM. Around here, Sportsman is 1/4 mile (12.0 bottom dial) and everything else is 1/8 mile (Pro, Super Pro). Apparently it is cheaper for the tracks from an insurance perspective. The only time they run 1/4 for the fast cars are special events (index racing and such). Agree x 2.
