I'd rather run a flat tappet mech. than a hydro roller, but I shift over 6K. 1967 Falcon 4 door 351C - 70 Mustang 351C.

If you are shooting for a certain horsepower figure, the larger cube engine will be able to achieve it at a lower rpm level. A 420hp 392ci engine will be a lot milder than a 420hp 347. It will also have more low end and midrange power. This milder engine will also require less maintenance and have a longer service life. Cubic inches are GOOD.

I doubt you will loose any bottom end. Since the ports are the same length on all Ford smallblock heads, any difference in volume is directly proportional to the difference in average crossectional area. A 165cc head on a 302 has the same crossection area, relative to the displacement it must feed, as a 214cc head on a 392.

yea the 392 crate motors are nice 475 hp 495 lbs of torque. thats with those z304 heads. you would probably need a 351 intake since the motor is taller and wider. Also either lowering motor mounts to set the 392 lower in the bay or get a cowl induction hood to get it to clear. If you think about this the lowering motor mounts would be cheaper.
