It did mean he had a 283 and I think the classes were divided into cubic inches versus weight. I have an origional B altered drag truck . It has 264 on the door for the early nailhead. But later after classes changed It didnt matter and the truck now has a 401. A= altered G= gass The top letter stands for the class.
