Yep, a properly set up automatic will beat the stick in the 1/4 mile. Not true in a road course or auto-X though, and an auto with a high stall is not the easiest thing to drive around town. For me I will stay with the manual tranny. Les:cheers:

There is less parasitic drag with a manual than there is with an automatic. A novice will run faster with a automatic than they would with a manual, granted, but with experience, I think the same car, same driver, the manual will be faster than an auto, mainly due to the car being able to stay in the powerband of the engine.

On a serious note, consistency is king in drag racing as is reaction time. Automatics are going to perform better in 9/10 situations and probably more. You do have your freaks that are really good with a manual and can rip awesome launches with the consistency of a robot. Ranger on the Vette Forums for instance.
