Babs was powered by a WW1 era 450 hp 27.059 litre V12 Liberty aero engine designed by Jesse Vincent and Elbert Hall for the US government, this drove the back axle via a twin chain drive system and gearbox from a 1909 Blitzen Benz racing car. The engine was fitted with pistons designed by Parry-Thomas and four new Zenith carburettors.
