On September 11 Beech Ridge Motor Speedway owner Andy Cusack announced to competitors, fans and employees at the historic facility that he had reached an agreement to sell the track property to a land developer. It proved devastating news to supporters of the Scarborough, Maine track, which has been in business since 1949.

The NASCAR sanctioned track is owned by Andy Cusack. Beech Ridge Motor Speedway opened in May of 1949. Legendary northern New England racer Ralph Cusack purchased the track in 1981. His sons Andy and Glenn took over ownership of the facility in 1997. Andy Cusack became the sole owner of the facility in 1999.

BRMS opened its gates on Sunday, May 20th, 1949 bringing McConnell’s dream of professional racing to Maine. Improvements to the facility were made and McConnell kept the track operational for the next 20 years, having funded his dream out of his own pocket. McConnell was 36 years old when he began building Beech Ridge in 1948.
