on e34's we run values between 450-700 Lb/inch (on coilovers) maybe higher for strictly track use. obviously you are 400kg at least down on a 34. either way 500 lb/in is about 8.9 kg/mm so yer, i would say 10kg/mm is the right sort of ballpark. #3 scabbye34, Aug 22, 2012.

Join Date. Jul 2007. Location. Cork. Posts. 18,137. standard is 6kg and they are very comfy. I have 6, 8 and 10s for the front and have 8, 10 and 14s for the rear. I think 8 and 10s are nice for a road car that's drive hard. 6 and 8 are probably best for comfort and just want decent handling and the adjustablity that you get with the coilovers.

There is no standard GC set up for E30, they have all kinds of spring options but what they recommended for street car with basic GC coilovers was 375/475. Once I get the car done and adjusted I'll be able to have a better opinion about some different rates. I'll have to refresh my memory on physics and springs.

Also remember that the light weight of the E30 makes the car great. Large pistons will weigh down the car, with a fairly low weight, but at each corner of the car. Like mentioned here the Ate fluid and brakes should take you a long way. BMW brakes are great.

Basically, if you want to change only one set of springs, then change the front ones to 600#. If you want even softer because of bumpy tracks, you can pick 450# & 700#. Basically, the spring ratio on an e30 M3 with S14 is 1:1.5 (front to rear) Hope it helps. Lee.
