BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars are the most sophisticated stock car formula. Each vehicle races with a race-tuned V8 engine developing approximately 650 bhp. The cars are also fitted with quick-change axles, roof-mounted aerofoils, cambered wheels and brake setups for constant left turning. The chassis of each vehicle is also offset.

BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars is a class of single-seater stock-car-racing in the UK. Cars are custom-built. The race is conducted on oval tracks of either shale or tarmac of approximately a quarter-mile in length. The tracks are surrounded by either an Armco barrier or post and cable fences to keep the cars on the track.

By 1973, Jim had earned a Yellow roof, racing a Jaguar-engined Mini-bodied stock car he'd built himself. Jim realized it was wiser to get better wheels, so this car went to Paul Smith #12, and he took on a powerful Chrysler V8, I believe from Mick Noden, with which he held 3rd at Mendip behind Stu Smith, before finishing a happy fourth.
