I'd run a #6 ground wire, either with the green jacket or just bare. Land one end on the ground bar in main panel, and then use water pipe clamps for the appropriate size (1/2"-1" should work) and ground it that way. One ground wire for both will suffice. Do it once, do it to code the first time.

It's not the greatest idea to pull bare stranded wire with other conductors in a wire pull, and solid conductors larger than 8awg, IIRC, are not allowed to be pulled in raceways. Smooth outer insulation of THHN probably makes for an easier pull in many cases. For GECs run outside raceways the insulation provides a bit of extra protection from damage.

Running bare ground inside the PVC conduit is fine. Inside is better than outside in case you ever need to service it or if your demand out there increases pulling larger conductors and a larger ground. In 1-1/4" sch 40 PVC you're permitted up to four #4 wires, and this gauge will get you 100 amps. I'd size it for future expansion.

A conduit or raceway, even if 100% waterproof, is not a location. The EGC should probably be insulated for a couple of reasons: 1) it will last longer, and 2) not contribute to shock hazard. Typically, the few inches of an indoor wiring method are accepted to terminate in an outside disco enclsure, such as an AC unit.
