But during the early 60's it was known by street racers as "the connecting". It was the scene for some of the best street racing in the city. It was a perfect spot akin to an arena.

The hwy which you got onto from the e/b grand central after the Triboro Bridge. was below grade, hundreds of people used to stand by the rail about 50 feet high and watch the drag racing on Fri & Sat nights. The 114 used to open the. hydrants on the street and the water that flowed down to the hwy would end the racing.
