Dave Nourish 2021-11-06 - It is with sadness that we learned of the death of legendary engineer, Dave Nourish, on October 18, 2021. If you’ve ever owned a Triumph and Norton then you will know his name, but his career involved so much more. It began in 1949 as a teenager, racing a ‘cammy’ Velocette and even a BSA Gold Star in the Isle of Man TT.

The whole business was picked up by Dave Nourish who ran it until January 2015 when he decided to retire early at the age of 82. Dave’s business was called Nourish Racing Engines and from this their current name NRE comes. I spoke to Dave a couple of years back about buying an engine and I got him to mail me a price list.

Dave Nourish, high class engineer for British engines passed away on October 18th and was buried last Saturday, October 30th. He was a good friend of my friend Bruno who's engineering skills I rate highly. Bruno learnt a lot from Dave Nourish who lent Bruno and his son Steve bikes to go and beat the British at their own game.

I was told at Kempton (on the 23rd) that Dave Nourish, of Weslake and later NRE (Nourish Racing Engines) fame, died on Monday 18th October, the cause of death being given as Covid. “Classic Bike” magazine’s September 2013 issue did a (IMHO) great 6 page profile of the then 82 year old Dave entitled “King of the Eight-Valve Twin”.
Vintage Nourish and Westlake 8-valve kits for sale

For years Brit bike enthusiasts have heard of the famous 8-valve cylinder head for racing Triumphs. It was originally developed by Westlake and then manufactured by Dave Nourish. Marino Perna, founder of MAP Cycle, purchased a complete, original Nourish kit about 20 years ago with the intentions of possibly developing his own 8-valve head.

Nourish own camshafts are available for unit or pre-unit engines with our 305 o, 320 and ‘Z’ profiles. These are not re-worked Triumph cams but machined from forgings and nitrided, as in our complete racing engine. Due to the differing condition and specification of the engines to which the kit is likely to be fitted, it is

When the project was dropped, Dave Nourish took on the patterns and developed/evolved the head under the name "Nourish Racing Engines - NRE. They became a lot better finished with the casting imperfections filled and smoothed out, and are available in either big or regular valve heads (big valves are 1mm larger in diameter).
