Racing – The Scottish Deerhound Club of America

Racing provides a venue for Deerhounds to do what they love best – running after “prey”. All sighthounds can participate in both straight and oval racing. These races are hosted by approved clubs, and are usually held on grassy fields in parks, school yards, or private ranches. Dogs are eligible to qualify and compete when they are one year old.

Deerhound Day at Lodge Park 2008. Lodge Park was built in 1634 as a place to watch - in some elegance - a popular sporting event - deer coursing. In this 'sport' a deer was released at the start of a long open space, or track. Hunting dogs were then released to chase the deer. The course extended for some distance; at Lodge Park the course ran a mile, and ended in two ditches.
