Jan 4, 2012. #1. Improper transmission shim can cause a host of problems, from vibration, leaking seals and primarys, to broken motor plates, jackshafts, and mainshafts. Ride height and shims This is interesting. I have this as one of my winter mods. Does the change you can make in the ride height with the shims relate directly to the thickness in the shim you use. For instance, would a 1/2" shim allow lowering the ride height "only" 1/2"? Or does it somehow allow a greater lowering?

When is the shim needed? I can understand that the surface of the flywheel will essentially be moved towards the engine the amount of the resurfacing, but I don't see how ...

2-Speed Transmission: SSD vs Hot Racing vs Axial - RCCrawler

If you get SSD, you might want to get the lever set from Axial. It's not necessary, but might make it a bit easier to set it up. Couple the 2-speed with a Mamba X, so that you have 100% drag brake and instant reverse in gear 1 and less drag brake (30-50% or whatever is your preference) in gear 2, and you have a very flexible rig.
