Joined Oct 1, 2016. ·. 2,346 Posts. #2 · Jan 4, 2017. Only show this user. I get 3.7 to 3.9 on the street launching in 2nd. At the tracking I use first gear. In second I flash the converter at 1100 rpm and roll into it manually shifting it. It spins but not bad and is very controllable.

If you get your car tested on a rolling road the resulting graph will show where this power band is. For most cars the power will start to tail off again about 1000-2000 rpm before the red line, so this is the logical place to change gear.

There are a number of races launching from second and they really don't want to discuess what they are doing and don't want to give away any advantage they may have. The second gear launch won't give you a quicker 60' and ET. I think that a limited slip rear, tires, and suspension is the way for you to go for quicker times. Save Reply

Unless you have a full manual valve body even if you select 2nd on the line you're still in first. The governor will just shift it to second. With a full manual valve body, if you select third from a stop, you'll take off in third. Same for 1st and 2nd. If you stop form 3rd and let the shifter in 3rd, that's where it is, still in third.
