The rule at our local track is 13.99 and quicker water only....but since newer cars can run into the 11's not sure how that may apply now...I think I will leave antifreeze in the AMX this year...and only change out the Gremlin....I put coolant in it in the winter....do not like fixing freeze plugs.... A 50/50 water/antifreeze mixture has a heat capacity that is almost 20 percent less than plain water. Auto manufacturers compensate for this lower cooling capacity of water/glycol mixtures by increasing the volume of the cooling systems in production cars, but drag racers don’t want or need big, heavy radiators and pumps.

Many of the A/ND dragsters don't use any coolant. The blocks are filled more for rigidity than anything else. The reason they can run without coolant is because they use alcohol and their fuel. The alcohol being sprayed thru injectors does it's own cooling, plus they use up quite a bit of it making a pass.

Injected engine and customer put antifreeze in it to store for the off season. First race it would not come up to temp and stayed at 100 deg. Drained the coolant and put straight water in it and it came up 75degs. Making the water wetter does a better job. I have seen that article and there are some holes in the theory behind it JMO

We recommend using a corrosion inhibitor comparable to Prestone Super Anti-Rust when using pure water. If freezing is a concern, use the minimum amount of antifreeze required for your climate. Stewart Components has extensively tested all of the popular "magic" cooling system additives, and found that none work better than water.

Give any good bracket racer or super class racer .025 off and he will own you. To recap the high points: You have to fill from a low pressure spot in the system, not the highest location. A good pump will push the water above the pump level and remove the trapped air. Trapped air causes more problems in a cooling system than all other malfunctions.
