Clevelandstyle is right, running without and alternator is a PITA. Most drag cars have electric everything! I have charging posts on my back bumper and use a dry cell battery (Optima). With a dry cell battery I use a charger that shuts off automatically when battery is charged to prevent damage to the battery.
