Das TU Graz Racing Team wurde im Sommer 2002 aus Eigeninitiative von Studierenden der TU Graz gegründet. 14 Monate danach wurde bereits der erste Rennwagen des Teams vorgestellt. Die erste Saison verlief hervorragend, sodass der zweite Bolide, der Tankia 2005, gleich den „Winner Over All“ bei den Bewerben in Deutschland und Italien gewann.
