Raytracing is a type of rendering where the path of individual light rays are calculated between the camera and the light source. To find out more about how to raytrace to produce shadows, see Raytraced shadows. To find out more about how to raytrace to produce reflections, see True reflections. Note: You may not need to adjust quality settings for an entire scene. Adjusting …

Solved: Unexpected rendering results of Raytracing …

    https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-shading-lighting-and/unexpected-rendering-results-of-raytracing-shadow/td-p/5430637
I tried to switch light shadow to Depth Map Shadow and increase the Bias parameter, then the shading looks better than raytrace shadow. The problem is that I need to render the model with raytrace shadow, and I really tried everything I could. I'd be really appreciated if anybody could give me some tips on solving this problem. Solved: Recursive gpu caching is not saving the material ...

    https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-forum/recursive-gpu-caching-is-not-saving-the-material-definition-for/td-p/8313688
Maya Version: 2018.4. Platform: Windows 10 . I have imported two gpu caches and objects in each cache have different material. I then selected the two gpuCache nodes and exported another gpuCache node. Upon importing the recursive gpuCache, the materials are not being displayed as expected. Any ideas what I am doing wrong or missing?

Recursive vs iterative raytracing, pros and cons ...

    https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/recursive-vs-iterative-raytracing-pros-and-cons-pathtracer-sample/33531
The pathtrace sample does raytracing iteratively - computes origin and direction in closest hit program and stores in PRD data, then ray generation program launces a new ray. Why wasn’t it done recursively (e.g. launch new ray from closest hit program)? Was it done to avoid issues due stack size limitations? Or to simplify code by doing continuation checks in a single …
