I had that happen on a burn out in my blown 473. Thank you all for the help, I now know of a place I can get the tap for around $50.

These appear to have gotten press-in freeze plugs. When the 427 sideoiler was introduced in late 1964, it had screw-in freeze plugs installed. All 427s after this point seem to have inherited the screw-in freeze plugs, whether topoiler or sideoiler. Note that Ford kept producing the 427 topoiler into the 1970s.

Jim. If you have a torch heat the plug not the block and chill it a little with air and it will screw right out. I just did this on a 427 and it worked great otherwise they were not coming out. I put in screw-in plugs using 2-part epoxy. No leaks!! Why not just add some 'stop leak' to the cooling system.
