At lower power levels (ie momentum cars, under 200 hp), there's honestly not a big difference between RWD and FWD, if the car's setup and driving are on point. That last part is key; all bets are off if the car isn't setup well or driven well, and FWD setup and driving both have some important differences from RWD.

Which is better for racing, RWD or 4WD? - Quora

RWD is better for racing. The British Touring Car Championship used to allow FWD, RWD and 4WD to race in the same one class event. Then the FWD car makers upset at always losing to RWD of BMW and for a time Volvo, hatched a plan. They ganged up to put a 50kg weight penalty on RWD cars. Naturally they stuck the weight on the back end.
