Gary gained himself some good results this year. One of the most memorable would be the Grand Final at Skerries in July, Gary was racing against the big Hondas and Yamahas on the 250cc Honda and won setting a new absolute lap record of 102.82mph. He also recorded his fastest lap at the Ulster Grand Prix in August of 119.02mph.

Riding the blue rocket 500 ROC Yamaha he finished in eighth place in the TT Formula One race with his fastest ever TT lap of 119.93mph. He followed that up with a sixth place on the 250 with a lap of 117.67 but the best was kept to the last - a third place on the 125cc machine. That was to be his only rostrum finish of his short TT career.
