    That is Ski-Doo legend Gaston Ferland on the right – wearing his original 1973 suit. Gaston was signing autographs all weekend long and posing for pictures. This photo was taken by Tom Anderson (who sent me, by the way, 164 pictures!) just moments after Gaston signed the hood of Kurt Krueger’s 1974 Ski-Doo SnoPro racer.

    He raced on the Valcourt test track at the same time as Yvon-Duhamel, the French-Canadian professional motorcycle racer whose name the circuit today bears. With many victories on the Eagle River side, the Americans nicknamed him “The Legend”. Gaston Ferland has also participated 15 times in the Canadian Championship at Beauséjour.

    Racing Legend Gaston Ferland is featured in this photo sent in from Todd Koehn. Taken at some trade show in the mid 1970’s (The photo was labled “Au Salon Moto-Sport”), it shows Gaston and an adoring fan? Perhaps a relative? We don’t know for sure. Turns out Gaston has his own website.

    Ski-Doo ran the year-old Double Eagle chassis with two 771cc free-air Rotax Blizzard engines, but never crossed the timing lights due to a blown piston. Next was Gaston Ferland from Quebec on the 2nd factory Double Eagle Ski-Doo and his speed went down in history as the first person to officially break the 100 mph mark (100.22).
