Gates has a performance series of belts. They make belts for Power Enterprise, Greddy etc.. Those are good. I believe that they also have a standard replacement belt. The OEM belt is very good. I use them all the time for all types of builds. You should just use it for the recommended service interval no matter where it came from. Alex

If you didn't catch that the first time. To clarify, Gates Racing does not make anything other than the belts in their kits. The rest of the parts can either be OEM or OE quality replacement, meaning not OEM. I would just buy the Gates Racing Timing belt it self and then get oem parts for the rest and call it a day.

Apr 21, 2021. #3. Gates could have a German factory, too, remember. Dayco makes some belts in Italy. German supplier Continental makes belts in Europe, the US, and Mexico. If you don't want to spend the money on a dealer OEM belt, you might like Continental and Bando. Reactions: RitcheyRch and Lubener.

Gates and OEM rubber is different (even with cam and crank seals), Gates use a hard rubber (explains noise) while OEM is much softer. In the end what matters the most is the installation of the belt itself, do it right first time and you won't need to worry about it for another 10 years or 100,000km.

Gates may make Honda timing belts but, you can be sure that Honda provided Gates with Honda specs. So, if you go to your local auto parts store and get a Gates belt for your Honda, you are not getting an OE belt. Gates & GoodYear were two of the manufactures whose belts were stretching and breaking.
