Bracing on all Gibson Acoustics - Gibson Acoustic - …

The Gibson bracing 'X' is approximately 1 1/2 inches from the sound hole. Forward shifted bracing is only about an inch. The wider angle of the AJ style bracing accomplishes the same kind of thing as forward bracing creating more end at the bottom. zombywoof All Access 9.5k Posted September 14, 2014

One very good builder and player, after being told that the guitar she preferred had double-X bracing, exclaimed:"But that doesn't WORK!". All I could do was shrug. IMO, Gibson could mess up boiling water... Matt Umanov spoke about the Gibson double-X guitars at a GAL convention in the late 70s.

The idea is to have a thread similar to the Martin bracing library, in the Tech. Info section. But that one includes new Martins. Since this is The Vintage Corner (and a Martin forum), it might be best to leave Montana Gibsons to the Gibson forum. See-through pictures and inside pictures are welcome, as well as measurements of brace dimensions.

Help with Hummingbird bracing - Gibson Acoustic - Gibson ...

Gibson did install that Fuller brace in the J200 staring around 1962 which was an additional brace which screwed directly into the top bracing and was designed to help stabilize the top. The thing in the HB though makes that contraption look downright petite. I agree with others though that this particular work of art was a post-production fix.

Its string spacing and nut width -- 3 3/8" and 1.72", respectively -- are unusually wide for such a late J-35. Impressive, the braces look thin & light and heavily scalloped. replacs 1,713 872 1 Registered Member Jun 06, 2013 #177

Here is a great video showing the two top bracing patterns used by Gibson. It shows the modern J45 Standard bracing on the left, and the wider X bracing used on the J45 TV and the Advanced Jumbo on the right. onewilyfool All Access 7.5k MissouriPicker All Access 4.8k LocationIndependence, Missouri Posted April 2, 2013

Vintage Gibson bracing library. …. Here's one more, this time a war-era LG2. I just founds these pictures so sorry for the not so great scans. I don't remember the year now, but details include Poplar neck and tail blocks, laminated maple sides and back (those are much easier to get apart by the way) and scalloped braces.
