I recall Willi Henkes posting a diagram of two 1951 J200s over at UMGF. My wife plays a 1960 J200 with this bracing. Edited February 2 by zombywoof Quote jt

The double X with the transverse tone bars is pretty unique. Not to be confused with the infamous double X bracing from Gibson's Norlin era BTW. (In itself that double X could work well.) ... (fifties or so J-200). Among other things, it would show the odd position of the (lower)X-legs as related to the bridge. Henk. BHguitars. 4,542 336 ...

Matt Umanov spoke about the Gibson double-X guitars at a GAL convention in the late 70s. He said that, when they decided to retire the design and were dismantling the line, somebody thought to measure the setting for the sander that thicknessed the tops. It was set at .095"; the blueprint called for .125".

The shop had it listed as a short scale 24 3/4” guitar but I was always under the assumption that most of these J-200 and SJ-200 guitars were long scale. Was this a custom order in 57? I know Gibson’s specs and bracing can be all over the board. I’m curious if there are any J-200 nuts on here that have some good info.

The lightweight bracing pattern inside the J-200 Studio —the same pattern used in Gibson’s first Super Jumbo in 1937—is constructed to support and strengthen a very large surface, thus allowing the top more freedom of movement to vibrate and project sound.
