Gibson acoustic does not shift the bracing. That is a technique used by Martin. We have a standard X Brace which is found on the J-45, Hummingbird and many others. The J-35 has what we call a 30's bracing pattern like the AJ. This makes for a longer bridge plate and brings out a greater dynamic range ( more mids and a little more volume)

J-35, circa 1941 -- or so I understand the scalloped bracing and French heel would suggest . Its string spacing and nut width -- 3 3/8" and 1.72", respectively -- are unusually wide for such a late J-35. Impressive, the braces look thin & light and heavily scalloped. replacs 1,713 872 1 Registered Member Jun 06, 2013 #177

But between 1936 and 1941 the J35 was basically a laboratory with Gibson experimenting with everything from the size of the soundhole to the number of tone bars to the bracing carve. In 1941 they finally hit upon a formula they apparently liked which in 1942 became the J45 and J50.
