J-45 Bracing Question - Gibson Acoustic - Gibson Brands Forums

The braces in your J-45's are similar to the back braces in other modern slope-J models, such as the SJ. I have both modern and vintage mahogany slope-J's. My modern 1943 SJ re-issue is a superb guitar, but the completely original one-owner 1950 J-45 I bought earlier this year has one big advantage over it: 70-year-old wood.

The J 45 True Vintage and J 45 Vintage models use the Wide X. For a Standard J 45 they use standard X . JC And for serious reproductions, like the Legend, they use the same bracing used by the guitars they are replicating, whatever that may be. Posted April 26, 2017

Late in that year, Gibson abandoned the round-shouldered dreadnought shape and gave the J-45 a Martin-style square-shouldered body, along with a longer, 25.5″ scale length. The assault on the J-45 continued in 1970 with the tone-killing double-X bracing pattern (although Gibson did do away with the height-adjustable saddle).

Differences in Bracing patterns??? - Gibson Brands Forums

The back braces are also very different between a J-45 and an Advanced Jumbo. The four ladder braces are numbered 1-4, starting from top to bottom. While it's true that the J-45 has had and continues to have many variations in back bracing styles, it can be easily be said that the AJ's back bracing is quite massive by comparison to any of them.

Approximate plans of a J-45 - Gibson Brands Forums

You don't need approximate when you can have exact. Every J-45 lover should have these correct, full-scale plans in the inventory. Shows the bridge and pickguard variations, as well. Worth every penny. 1957 J-45 Posted April 9, 2015 Hey, OWF - you have a running list of 50 or so different variants on the J45. Can you dig that out and post it here?

Bracing on all Gibson Acoustics - Gibson Brands Forums

Gibson acoustic does not shift the bracing. That is a technique used by Martin. We have a standard X Brace which is found on the J-45, Hummingbird and many others. The J-35 has what we call a 30's bracing pattern like the AJ. This makes for a longer bridge plate and brings out a greater dynamic range ( more mids and a little more volume)

What Gauge of Strings for a J-45 - Gibson Brands Forums

Posted March 25, 2010. Different manufacturers use the terms 'light' and medium' for different gauges of strings. Also the choice of string gauge varies greatly from person to person. I use Ernie Ball Earthwood Bronze 12 to 54 ('Medium Light') most of the time, but I do use 13-56 ('Medium') on one guitar.

Bracing for 1942 to 1944 J-45 models (9xx FONs to 2xxx FONs red spruce tops) was often lightly built with full sound. These are usually lighter built than the 7xxxH FON examples, and sound warmer but not as powerful, with beautiful harmonics. These guitars differ the most since the tops differ in thickness and quality.
