The seam strength comes from the bond between the glass panels. Not the smear on the inside of the seams. If you used the correct silicone and did it correctly, it should hold. I bought my overflow from Exotic Marine, following their instructions using their template. come to find out the top of the overflow is flush with the top of the glass, which leaves me no room to install my euro bracing on the inside of the tank. so I guess I'm stuck with either putting the glass bracing on the very top or a aluminum angle metal brace.

Strictly speaking the Euro bracing takes advantage of certain tank sizes were it works well. It makes much more structural sense on tanks that are boxy rather than very oblong. When things get very oblong, the center brace becomes much more economical then making the glass thicker on the front and back or making huge braces. I hear bubbles 24/7
