Hazel Park was established in 2011 by Rhys Holleran who had a vision for a racing facility and a spelling and breeding farm. The spelling farm and race facility was named after Rhys’ partner Leanne Hulm and Donna Scott’s grandmother and family matriarch Hazel Hulm who passed away November 2016 at the age of 95.

Hazel Park Raceway, located in Hazel Park, Michigan, was a horse race track offering live thoroughbred racing every Friday and Saturday night May through mid-September and simulcast wagering seven days a week all year long on thoroughbred and harness races from across the US and Canada. Admission and parking were free.

In 1949 Hazel Park became the second thoroughbred race track in the Detroit area and the second in Michigan. It was the first track in the country with a five eights mile oval. In the fifties Hazel Park became a dual breed track when it introduced harness racing in 1953.
