I think Toluene and Xylene are key ingredients of racing fuel. I saw a recipe on another board for a homemade octane booster. It was recommended to add 1 oz of Marvel Mystery Oil to each gallon of this fuel to help with lubrication. I'm not so sure I'd trust it. It was claimed that the recipe really worked.

Most race gas is mixed up from base with toluene (and other goodies). If you had a significant difference mixing your own, you probably created a much higher octane fuel than the race gas you were used to using. 100 octane race fuel is roughly the same as a full tank of 93 and six gallons of toluene.
