That is why at extreme angles with a fair amount of speed your speedo says something like 10mph, because that is all your forward motion actually is, the rest of your speed is sideways, which GT5 evidently doesn't care about. This is also why GT5 appears to reward shallower drift angles, because your forward speed is higher hence more points.
