I take no offense to be corrected or debating fine tuning.I think everyone benefits fron a "thourough and what if discussion". BTW Ive used gears sets from 2.73:1 up t0 5.57:1. each had a purpose and each work as they were intended. My current set is 3.50:1 with a 5 speed. Ive never explore high rpm in 5th gear yet.

Only show this user. with Vortec heads you could squeeze out 450 hp with a cam duration of 240º/250º if you clean up the exhaust side of the heads and find good flowing castings. The cam will need to be a hydraulic roller or solid flat tappet. Add 8º for a solid cam. Edelbrock RPM intake or better.

great motors. i have the block in my chevelle. you want to look for the 880 blocks. they are the 350's. they also had a vortec 305. the back of the block will also be stamped with 5.7L on it. the only reverse cooling motor was the LT1. just to clarify the LT-1 was the 350 from the 70's, the new version is the LT1.
