The chocobo race one is mostly luck based. Try to get as many ballons as possible, don't bother running ahead, and try using your opponent as a shield to avoid birds. But if you don't get a good random ballons placement at start, you're doomed anyway. The lightning challenge is not hard, just extremly tedious.
