If you are doing that much drag racing I would suggest a Tremec tranny. If that's out of the budget, at least put a quality shifter with shifter stops on it to prevent damage. Also be very careful to make certain you get a t-5 from a v8 car. There are tons of 4cyl versions out there, and it's very hard to tell the difference.

Check out Gforce T5 I just bought one for my upgrades but have not run it yet but it came highly recommended and all the info i could find was A+. They are rated at 600hp and 500 tq but that is a very conservative rating launching a 3300 lb. car on drag radials. Last edited: Mar 11, 2008. Reply.

The gearing in the AOD having the 2.40 1st gear compared to the T-5 3.35 (or 2.95 if a SD) makes a huge difference! Another one....my '88 LX I had ran a 14.40@98 AOD with exhaust/ 3.73's then with 5spd swap was a 13.74@102! With a good converter/valvebody and more gear the AOD will run pretty good though. 2011 GT500.

Step 2: A) Disassemble Shifter Assembly Tap the cover rearward with a hammer, and the whole shifter will come apart. This year with the only change being a swap to an FMS T5 manual transmission, the car now runs 13.30 @ 104 MPH. And that was with a soft launch and no powershifting.
