That's perhaps just a big misconception. Racing games are very playable with KB/M. I've played several Need for Speed and burnout games all on KB/M, had no problems. Played open-world games like Sleeping Dogs and Just Cause 2 all on KB/M as well, acing ALL the races available easily (yep, even the plane races in JC2).
