I just picked up a used n64 and diddy kong racing, fired it up, deleted the saved files and started an adventure. It went through the opening cutscene and when it finally started, the 2 free balloons weren't there, the Wizpig mountain had half of its face filled in, and it looked like it was set up for Adventure 2 (I was able to get to space world, doors were looking for platinum balloons, etc.)
