There are legendary snowmobiles and then there is the Polaris TX-L, a legend in a class of its own making. Introduced in the mid-1970s, the TX-L came about because Polaris needed a cross-country racing machine to supersede its standard TX model and because the public was clamoring for liquid-cooled sleds. The TX-L delivered on both counts.

The 1977 TX-L was the snowmobile that Polaris used to begin the transisiton from free air engines to liquid cooling and steel cleated tracks to rubber. Racing does improve the breed and as the ‘77 season closed the snowmobile industry was again entering a transition time.

Certainly the TX-L was quite a snowmobile in its day! From the outside the "L" looked like the free-air TX series you'd see Polaris star racers running at the major oval circuits. It had that boxy center section in the hood and Polaris' signature white paint with blue and red trim.
