The first IROC season was the 1974 season, and it kicked off on October 27, 1973. It consisted of 4 events with all racing done in identically-prepared Porsche 911 RSR’s. In the final race, at Michigan, Al Unser Jr. claimed a record eighth IROC first place, but Martin's battling second earned him the $200,000 IROC title and a new Avenger passenger car.
