He is correct for most of the time. Anytime a car is faster than an 11.0 or so, it's VERY difficult to keep up with an automatic. A properly built automatic, with C4's, TH400's and Powerglides being the most common. Please do not be the typical ignorant car drivers who think Manuals are the end all be all of drag racing.

Discussion Starter · #1 · Feb 10, 2004 I have a friend that claims that an automatic transmission will beat a manual every time. I disagree. He claims that's why all drag racers use automatics. I dont know much about the NHRA guys, but when I was street racing, I know no automatic ever beat me. What do you think? Do I need to eat crow? Save Reply J

On a serious note, consistency is king in drag racing as is reaction time. Automatics are going to perform better in 9/10 situations and probably more. You do have your freaks that are really good with a manual and can rip awesome launches with the consistency of a robot. Ranger on the Vette Forums for instance.
