VIR'S ORIGINAL DEVELOPERS REMEMBER TRACK CONSTRUCTION BY PHIL ALLEN, 12/01 (last revision 3/07) On August 15, 1956 a small group met to hold a press conference at a remote farm located on the banks of the Dan River near Milton, North Carolina. Their purpose was to announce the building of a racetrack unlike anything ever seen in the heart of stock car racing country.
