Ken Wharton. Motor racing driver. Born in Smethwick, Birmingham, to a middle class family, Wharton began racing at the age of 19 in an Austin Seven at Donnington Park. WW2 interupted his racing but after the war he as a trained motor engineer had by then a Ford dealership and began to build his own racing specials.
