The story of Konig racing outboards begins in Germany in the year 1928. Rudolph Konig began manufacturing small and medium size outboards in Berlin, and was joined some years later by his son, Dieter. These early pleasure and fishing motors resemble other motors of their time period.

At the 1977 Nationals, Dan Kirts was driving the "stacked" 8 cylinder Yamato. At least as far as it took to get on a plane, then it broke a coupling. The last time I remember Dan with the 8 was at Alexandria, but I forgot what year. If it was 1979, Jeff Hutchins won with Elmer Grades 4 cylinder Konig.

It was driven for Marshall Grant by drivers Charlie Bailey and then Dan Kirts. It was estimated at a maximum speed of 130 mph. The 8 cylinder Konig was first run at Lakeland, Florida, in 1974 with Charlie Bailey driving for Marshall Grant. Marshall later sold the engine to Joe Michelini.

Ralph feels his most successful classes have been A and B Runabout; in 1965 he held the A Hydro competition record in NOA and in 1962 won the B Runabout championship, in 1966 he placed 5th in B Runabout at the APBA Nationals.
