Les Leston, who has died aged 91, was an awardwinning jazz drummer in his teens, playing the London clubs with the Clay Pigeons, a band led by Belgian trumpeter and racing driver Johnny Claes. Born Alfred Lazarus Fingleston, Les began racing a Jaguar SS100 in 1949 then switched to Formula 3 in the 1950s, winning 16 races in 1952 in his own Les Leston Special.
