    A unique moment as Australia’s home-grown category, Formula Holden, races for the first time at Mallala in May, 1989. That’s Neil Crompton leading this group in Peter Boylan’s Ralt RT20. He’d finish third in the first race and fifth in the second. It’s 1990 and Peter Brock leads Colin Bond in a pair of Sierras in a battle of the fuel brands.

60TH ANNIVERSARY - Mallala

    The Mallala Race Circuit, as it was originally known, was built on the site of the former Mallala RAAF Base. The venue was built by a group of enthusiasts as a replacement for the closing Port Wakefield Circuit. The venue opened on the 19th of August 1961, with the following meeting being the Australian Grand Prix on 9th October 1961.

    Mallala hosted many important championship races over the next 10 years including 1962 & 1964 Gold Star Championship, 1962 & 1968 Australian Tourist Trophy, and 1963 and 1965 Touring Car Championship. The track was shortened during 1964 from 2.1 miles to 1.6 miles and the pits were moved to outside the circuit.

    CIRCUIT MAP Mallala Motor Sport Park is located near the town of Mallala, north of Adelaide in South Australia. The nearest airport is at Adelaide, around an hour's drive from the circuit. By car the circuit is easy to reach. From the centre of Adelaide, head north along the A1 to Two Wells, then follow signs for Mallala.
