2014-12-22T14:01. actually while the finished product is the same it had to do with the grain direction. a 3/8 wide brace cut from 3/4 stock you get 1 back brace from the plank on a 3/4 in wide strip. 3/4 minus the blade kerf so you won't get 2 braces and thus the material saving. 3/4 hi and 3/8 the kerf is the loss.
