NOTE: This bracing was introduced on the D-1 in 1993. It was therefore often called D-1 Bracing or 1 Series Bracing long after the 1 Series instruments had been retired from the Martin catalog. This bracing was used on the original Road Series and 15 Series instruments at their inception.
D-1 A (frame) bracing pattern - The Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum

My plan was to build a 00 using sinker cedar for the top and I couldn't decide whether to use Martin style A frame bracing like my 00-15 or more conventional X- brace with tone bars. The advice here was to go with modified A-frame like D-16 with two tone bars and also two finger braces on each side. Oh, I also used Paduck for the back and sides ...
Martin D-1 | Vintage Guitar® magazine

The D-1 looks like it’s made totally from mahogany wood and finished with a paper-thin coat of lacquer sealer. In fact, Martin says the D-1 uses “a special cross link finish… extremely thin, to optimize tone.”. The typical dreadnought features apply – 20 frets on an 251/2″ scale, 14 frets clear of the body, etc.

There's no popsicle on either the hybrid or the A-frame. That tall brace is the soundhole brace. On the standard, you can see the popsicle just north of the soundhole brace.

The revised bracing is said to have enhanced the D-1's sound and, while we don't have an old model on hand for a direct comparison, the newcomer gives a robust performance. It has a decent degree of long-sustaining punch, the tone is nicely counterpoised between mellowish low-end warmth and a quite sunny treble, while healthy dynamics are unlocked …

That's why you can't see the difference by simply looking into the soundhole. The lower priced "1-series" guitars, such as D-1 and DM, have a simpler "A-frame" bracing system, which is different in every respect except for the main truss, the ubiquitous "cross …
Martin's Hybrid, Scalloped A-Frame Bracing - Harmony …

First of all, the Hybrid A-frame bracing was started on the 16 series Martins, which are their "experimental...trying out new methods" model. The non-hybrid A-frame bracing was started on the D-1 model originally I believe back in '93, but was/is unscalloped. The Hybrid bracing system is scalloped, and DOES sound more open to begin with.

The D-1 you have was introduced in 1992-3, and 2005 was the last year for the D-1 (until it was re-introduced w/ sapele and stratabond neck). Yours was the first with "new technology" A frame, modified X bracing, laminated neck and tail blocks, and the newer "angled" bridge holes that run parallel to the saddle.

This pattern is also sometimes referred to as Hybrid A Frame bracing, although this is much less common. No matter what you call it, Martin's Hybrid bracing retains the A shape and the lack of side tone bars from the A Frame bracing pattern while also utilizing the same tone bars placement below the bridge plate as is found on an X braced guitar.

The MMV and DSR both have the D1 A-Frame bracing. philbaritone 30 Registered Member Jun 21, 2010 #3 That's the thing that's confusing me a little. The Martin website lists the D-1 bracing as "Modified Hybrid ''X'' Scalloped", but my DSR has the very simple A-Frame bracing of a 15 series guitar. smitty42 632 3 Registered Member Jun 21, 2010 #4
