Martin refers to that as the "forward-shifted" position. It's a misnomer though: this is the original position of the X-braces on the famous …

The popularity of forward shifted bracing - The Unofficial …

My understanding is that Martin rediscovered forward-shifted bracing rather recently, as many guitarists discovered a preference for the tone that f-s bracing produces. I like my bass strings to be strong, but not dominant. Mike Longworth attributes it to Floyd Turner, but without a specific date.

The regular "X-bracing" held until this very day but you can still get many Martin guitars with scalloped bracing, it just costs more but what a difference in tone! Note, forward-shifted bracing usually has more bass, the rear-shifted bracing (moved down only an inch on the top) started around 1939 and continued until around 1946 and has more of a sparkle.

Martin dreadnoughts with true rear shifted bracing are relatively rare. You have it on models such as the D28 41' or D18 39', the Dan Tyminski and John Lennon D-28. jimholland 48 5 Registered Member Jan 25, 2019 #5 Too my ears, I prefer forward shifting over scalloping, if that's your interest.
