Glen founded the Vasaloppet Ski Race in Mora, Mn in 1973, when a small group of volunteers and 96 skiers raced on a farm. Johnstone came up with the brilliant idea after he was aware of the prestigious Vasaloppet ski marathon that finishes in Mora, Sweden, he contacted the officials to ask permission to use the name for a race in Mora, Minnesota.

THE SKI CHALLENGE began in 1985 as a Twin Cities Metro Area recreational ski racing program allowing adults to ski on teams in a series of races. Approximately 35 participants raced in the first yearof the program, today close to 1,200 racers of all ages participate per week. Ski Challenge courses are set as modified Giant Slalom.
