The young achiever award was given to Genevieve Crawford a junior driver with the Geoff and Jude Knight stable of Roxburgh. Genevieve does a lot of work with re-homing retired standardbreds. Field Marshal won the best Otago-owned horse award. He is owned by Syd and Shona Brown, of Mosgiel and won the 4yo Jewels impressively earlier in the year.

The Otago Harness Racing Awards will have a new home this year. The awards, held in Waikouaiti then Palmerston in recent years, will be at The Park Function and Events Centre at Forbury Park on August 13, held with the support of Dunedin Casino. The Waikouaiti Trotting Club has organised the awards in the past, but has taken a step back this year.

Harness racing changed its award format last year and will run a similar function at Forbury Park on September 30. The Otago thoroughbred awards will crown winners in the sprinter-miler, stayer and 3yr-old horse categories, from which a horse of the year will be selected. The sprinter-miler and stayer categories look to be the most closely fought.
