Its origin in 1975, according to Paxton, is traced to a small group of racing enthusiasts who billed themselves as the Williams Grove Old Timers (WGOT). Its founder was Jack Gunn, then the promoter of Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa. “Jack was a historian,” Paxton recalled. “He thought it would be a good idea to honor former drivers.”
